Stand up for public lands workers.

No one voted for the destruction of our public lands. The Trump administration’s decision to fire thousands of public lands employees will have a devastating impact on our national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges — including those in the South.

The fired workers are public servants who have dedicated their careers to providing us with the opportunity to experience grand landscapes, wild rivers, and bountiful, diverse wildlife. SELC may not always agree with the public land agencies’ decisions, but we fully support their mission. Without these workers, campgrounds and trails will close, wildfire impacts will worsen, imperiled species will be even more at risk, and local economies that depend on tourism and recreation will be hurt.

You can stand up for these special places and the workers who take care of them. Help us tell Congress to ask President Trump to protect our public lands and reverse these reckless firings.

As someone who values America’s public lands, I find the recent termination of thousands of land management agency employees deeply troubling. Many of our national parks, forests, and refuges are about to enter their busiest season of the year, and the Trump administration has left them with no one to properly steward these incredible places. 
 
Without these passionate and talented employees, resources like campgrounds, trails, and roads could go unmaintained. Additionally, wildfire impacts will worsen and the risks to imperiled species will increase. Neither the resources nor the visitor will benefit from removing the backbone of America’s public lands management. 
 
Local economies and small recreation businesses rely on tourism dollars to survive. Without these federal workers, both will suffer. If we care about these communities the same way we care about our public lands, then you must ask President Trump to give these wrongfully terminated employees their jobs back. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
